We asked our members to urge their MPs to support the Corporate Responsibility Bill in its second reading on 30 January and to put pressure on the Government not to block it.
Despite the great efforts of our supporters the Bill was blocked by the Government - an action we had anticipated. However, the Government has promised to come forward with its own regulations to introduce reporting on environmental matters. We are now expecting these soon. Andy King MP - who introduced the Bill - has tabled an Early Day Motion which expresses regret that the Bill was blocked, and challenges the Government to introduce laws that require big companies to report on their environmental impacts.
