Climate Change

Why tackle climate change?
2 November 2011

Climate change is real and it's happening now. Here's where you can get to grips with the issues.

Climate changed is caused by

Rapid global warming is bad news for millions of plants and animal species. According to scientists, the weight of evidence points to human activity as the cause.

The poorest people don't need science to tell them. Millions are already seeing disastrous effects - and that includes the most vulnerable in developed countries.

But it's not only the poor who stand to lose. Everyone depends on a stable climate. It's much riskier to do nothing about climate change than to act now.

If nine out of 10 pilots said a plane was going to crash who would be daft enough to fly in it?

What's more, the things that would help tackle climate change also offer massive benefits - for the economy and jobs, energy security, homes and our health. Many governments and millions of people already know this - and are getting on with it.

But there needs to be more action, faster. That's where we come in. By joining with millions of other people through Friends of the Earth, you can put pressure where it matters.
