Transport's share of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions is over a quarter - and it's rising. But there are practical solutions to the transport crisis.

What can we do about it?

As well as driving greener and more fuel-efficient cars, we need to change the way we travel. This means:

  • Travelling less
Shop local. Work from home using technology. Use video-conferencing for meetings

  • Changing how we get around
Use your car less and opt for public transport. Keep fit by cycling or walking for short trips.

  • Greener driving
Choose a greener car and follow ETA's tips on eco-friendly driving.

  • Time travelling
Cut the number of flights you take. Turn your journey into part of the holiday experience.

Transport that is good for the environment would also make life better for everyone.

Did you know?

Six of the top ten flight destinations from London could be reached by high speed rail.

What should the Government do?

We can all make changes in the way we travel. But the Government also needs to invest in climate-friendly ways of getting around.

Friends of the Earth says:

  • More money is needed for public transport.
  • Plans to expand air travel need a rethink

Next: Take action to persuade decision makers to create sustainable transport.
