Heathrow expansion

Heathrow expansion? A plane over the Houses of Parliament

The Government is about to decide whether to approve a third runway at Heathrow airport.

If built the new runway would lead to:

  • Huge increases in carbon emissions
When the science - and new Climate Change Law - says we must be making cuts.
  • More noise disturbance
From more flights and more flight paths.
  • Air pollution
The EU  expects an expanded Heathrow to breach pollution guidelines.
  • Demolition of hundreds of homes
A new runway would destroy over 700 homes, whole villages, a church and a medieval barn.
  • Increased traffic
Heathrow already generates more road traffic than any other development in the UK
Did you know?

Paris is amongst the most popular international destinations from Heathrow. But the same journey by train emits just 10% of the climate changing emissions.

Opposition grows

The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats oppose expansion of Heathrow. And a growing number of Labour MPs are also coming out against a third runway.

This leaves the Government looking increasingly isolated.

Clean, green alternatives

If Ministers are serious about tackling climate change they must scrap airport expansion plans.

Instead they must invest in less polluting alternatives like fast rail services.

Press for Change

If enough MPs say they oppose the Heathrow expansion plans that will send a powerful message to Government.

Ask your MP to sign Early Day Motion 2344 which urges Ministers to rethink their expansion plans.
