Zero Waste

Friends of the Earth Cymru is campaigning for the National Assembly to declare Wales a Zero-Waste nation. This would be accompanied by a practical plan to eliminate all waste of resources in 25 years.

At the moment, around 80 per cent of waste generated in Wales can be recycled, reused or composted.

Within 25 years society should:

  • develop new methods of recycling
  • phase out production of materials that cannot be recycled
  • learn to produce less waste.

The National Assembly cannot do this on its own. However, it can take a lead in the policies it implements in Wales. It can also lobby for new UK and European laws to reduce the amount of waste society produces.
