New map questions England's future

England is at a crossroads in terms of how we develop and prosper.

The choices we make now and in the next few years will determine whether our future is:

  • Unsustainable and locked into high carbon use.
  • Fairer, more secure and based on a low carbon economy.

When I said at the launch of the Stern Review that we were going to build a low carbon economy in the UK, I meant it.

What sort of economy are we building?

Despite these declarations, the Government's proposals for:

are taking us away from a low carbon economy.

Our Building site Britain map shows the developments which have the most damaging environmental and climate change effects. These schemes are either:

  • being built
  • in the planning pipeline; or
  • have been hinted at in local, regional or national strategies
