What is Friends of the Earth's view on road pricing?

Road pricing can be part of the solution to our transport problems.

But we also need:

  • greater investment in public transport
  • safer streets for cyclists and pedestrians
  • better land-use planning.

Road pricing is not a 'magic bullet' - it won't happen nationwide for another decade, and we need action now.

Road transport's contribution to climate change is growing and this is a much greater problem than congestion.

For more on our views about road pricing see our briefing (PDF - 91K) and our joint press release with Transport 2000.

Road transport accounts for over a fifth of total UK CO2 emissions. Take action against climate change
