Reducing traffic won't harm economy says advisors

Friends of the Earth has welcomed a new report, published today by a committee of Government transport advisors, which concludes that traffic levels can be reduced without harming economic growth.

Ron Bailey, Parliamentary Co-ordinator for Friends of the Earth said:

“The arguments for reducing road traffic are overwhelming. But despite the fact that public health, the environment and the economy would all benefit from traffic cuts,levels continue to rise. It is not good enough for the Government to talk about simply reducing the rate of growth, when all the evidence shows that what we need is a reduction in traffic levels. When will the Government keep its election pledge and introduce measures to cut road traffic?”
