World must listen to wake-up call on the environment

15 September 1999

“This vital UN report is a wake up call to the world. GEO 2000 proves that we are literally destroying life on Earth. Hurricane Floyd could be the latest terrifying example of what happens when nature's balance is upset.

This time government and industry must listen, and act to protect the resources that everyone depends on. We need environmental leadership from the Prime Minister, and we are not getting it. Tony Blair has ignored environmental problems ever since he got to power - and prevented Ministers like John Prescott and Michael Meacher from doing more to curb climate change, cut health-threatening pollution, and protect wildlife in Britain.

We know what the solutions to environmental problems are. But they cannot be implemented without Government and industry doing the right thing.”
