British energy: yet more huge losses

12 December 2002

Nuclear giant British Energy today announced pre-tax losses of £337 million for the six months to September 30.

Friends of the Earth’s nuclear campaigner Bryony Worthington said:

“Hardly a week passes without some new revelation showing that nuclear power is a complete liability. The nuclear industry posts huge losses, faces mounting clean-up costs, has no future and no credibility. It’s time the Government finally woke up to the fact that nuclear power has no prospects whatever. Instead of wasting vast sums of public money propping up this failed company, the Government should be investing in clean, green and renewable energy sources”.
