Al Gore and IPCC Awarded Nobel Peace Prize

12 October 2007

Friends of the Earth congratulates Al Gore and the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize today (12 October).

Friends of the Earth Director, Tony Juniper said:

"We are delighted that Al Gore and the IPCC have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Climate change is one of the biggest threats to global security that we face and it is absolutely right that this prize is awarded to individuals and organisations who are dedicated to addressing it.

Both Al Gore and the IPCC have done a huge amount to bring global attention to climate change and have set out positive steps for how we can tackle it. We hope the signal sent by the Nobel Foundation will be heard by politicians around the globe and that urgent action will be taken to address this threat before it's too late."
