Conservative announcement on Climate Change Bill

25 October 2006

Friends of the Earth welcomed the Conservative Party's publication of a climate change bill today.

Friends of the Earth Campaign Manager, Mike Childs said:

"We are delighted with the growing momentum behind the climate change bill - both the reports that David Miliband will be including a climate change in the Queens speech and the publication of a climate change bill by David Cameron. However we need to be sure that the bill does the job and that means a commitment to reducing the UK's carbon dioxide emissions by 3 percent year on year."

The Big Ask, Friends of the Earth's climate campaign is calling on the Government to introduce a climate change law that would commit the UK to reducing its carbon dioxide emissions every year, with cuts needing to average at least three percent. This demand is supported by 407 MPs (two thirds of all MPs) from across the political spectrum [1].
