Commenting on a new report released today by the Northwest Science and Environmental Policy Center, showing that pesticide use has increased in the United States as a result of GM crops [1], Friends of the Earth's GM campaigner Clare Oxborrow said:
"This new report is yet another blow to the GM industry which has hailed the supposed reduction in farmland chemicals as the main benefit of growing GM crops. Now it seems that growing GM crops in the US has actually led to an increase in the use of weedkillers. The UK Government must look closely at this evidence, put public and environmental interests first and refuse to allow GM crops to be grown in the UK."
