The Government must do more to help people live greener lives, Friends of the Earth said today following publication of research by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs which showed that a green lifestyle is becoming increasingly important to people.
The DEFRA research [1] also revealed that less than a quarter (24%) agreed that the government is doing a lot to tackle climate change.
Friends of the Earth's Head of campaigns, Mike Childs said:
"It's clear that people increasingly want to live greener lives. But the Government isn't doing enough to help them. This is one of the reasons that UK carbon dioxide emissions have risen under Labour. The Government must make it cheaper and easier for people to take action. This should include incentives for saving energy at home, making it cheaper for people to buy fuel-efficient vehicles and greater investment in public transport. And ministers must also strengthen the climate change bill, which is due to be presented to Parliament later this month"
