Hutton energy speech - Friends of the Earth reaction

22 September 2008

Responding to John Hutton's speech at the Labour conference, Friends of the Earth Energy campaigner, Robin Webster said:

"Peddling a new generation of coal-fired power stations as essential for Britain - before we even know if carbon capture and storage is going to work - is dangerous and misleading."

"Hutton has failed to grasp the serious threat posed by climate change or the huge potential of renewable energy."

"Renewable power and energy efficiency must be at the centre of Britain's energy plans - not consigned to the margins. A genuine green energy strategy would cut emissions, create jobs, boost energy security and meet all our energy needs."
